Contact Lenses
A contact lens exam includes the fitting and evaluation of contact lenses on a patient along with a routine eye exam. The contact lens fitting entails selecting the most appropriate contact lenses design and prescription. To ensure the patient has a successful fit, most patient will have a follow-up visit and changes would be made according to the patient’s experience. Contact lenses come in different designs including Spherical, Toric, Multifocal and specialty contact lens. Specialty contacts include gas permeable contact lenses (rigid or hard contact lenses), hybrid contact lenses (Duettes) as well as scleral contact lenses.
Spherical contact lenses are used to fit patients who have no or very little astigmatism. This is also considered a simple fit since there is only one power to fit. Toric lenses are best for patients with astigmatism. Multifocal lens is an option for patients who have bifocals or progressive glasses and would prefer to be out of glasses all together. These lenses come in dailies, bi-weekly and monthly disposable schedules.
Specialty contact lenses are lenses for patients with high prescriptions, keratoconus (corneal condition), history of corneal transplant and irregular corneas.
